The Opportunity:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Interior Systems Mechanic to join our busy construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation of steel stud framing, drywall, acoustic ceiling systems, door frames, fiberglass reinforced panels (FRP), and finishing work including taping and preparation for final finishes. This position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
-Measure, cut, and install light-gauge steel studs and framing systems according to specifications and drawings
-Install drywall panels on walls and ceilings using hand and power tools
-Close seams using successive coats of compound
-Sand by hand the seams and joints to ensure a flawless finish
-Tape, fill, and finish drywall joints to prepare surfaces for finishing using a taping machine or taping jig
-Install suspended acoustic ceiling systems, including grid and ceiling tiles
-Install hollow metal door frames and ensure proper alignment and secure fastening
-Install fiberglass reinforced panels (FRP) on walls and other surfaces
-Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications
-Ensure work is completed according to building codes, safety standards, and project requirements
-Maintain tools and work areas in a clean and safe condition
-Work collaboratively with supervisors and other trades on site
Requirements:
-Experience in steel stud framing, drywall installation, and interior systems work
-Experience with acoustic ceilings, door frame installation, and drywall finishing/taping
-Experience installing FRP is an asset
-Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
-Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and effectively
-Physically capable of lifting heavy materials and performing repetitive tasks
-Ability to work at heights and on ladders or scaffolding
-Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
-Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
Education and Experience:
-Secondary school diploma is an asset, but not a requirement
-Completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent experience is an asset, but not a requirement. Paragon will provide ongoing educational opportunities for the right candidate.
