I've been hearing dire things about car insurance rate hikes and it pains me because I work at home and use my car only to make a monthly run to Wholesale Club for a big load of inexpensive staples. For the little day-to-day things (eggs, butter, veggies etc) I walk to the Safeway on Elbow Drive or Shoppers and pay a little more for convenience for that smaller percentage of my monthly purchases.
So, divide my current yearly premiums by 12 and it's already costing me about 100 bucks per grocery trip, not including gas. Ouch.
I'm wondering if there are 2 or 3 other people in the neighbourhood who might like to carpool to Wholesale Club once a month with me and chip in half of what other paid options would cost. I have a comfortable, roadworthy and impeccably clean 4-door Nissan XTerra, so there is ample room, I think, for groceries for 3 or 4.
I usually go to Wholesale Club on Saturdays or Sundays just to avoid traffic, and as close to the end/beginning of the month as possible, weather-permitting.
If you have any interest or ideas how this could be a win-win, let me know.
Two deal-breakers I should mention: tobacco smokers or folks who wear heavy scents. I'm very sensitive to both and will not let either in my vehicle, even for a short ride. No disrespect meant to either group (I was a smoker once), but it's a non-negotiable condition.
